Help Make “Lilith & Thatch” A Reality

ThatchProgress

Ryan Reeb is working on an animated short film called “Lillith & Thatch”, and he needs your help to complete it.  They’ve run up against a wall and they need some funding to push through and find the talented artists required to finish the project.  They made a Kickstarter page for the project so you can find out more about it and donate a little or a lot and make this dream a reality.  Please pass this info along and get the word spread far and wide, we’re trying to get Ryan out of his VFX artist’s chair and into a Director chair where he belongs!

This Is How To Thank Your Sponsors

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

This video is simple, beautiful, and very well done, which are my three favorite things to see in motion graphics work.  Just goes to show you how far good 3D tracking and clear ideas can take you.  It is a thank you to the sponsors of the AICP Southwest Festival that happened earlier this month, and was created by Corgan Media Lab .  I was not aware of these folks before, but I’m a solid fan now!  Discovered via Designcollector TV.

I Want To Roll You Into My World

Katamari Damacy cake topper

On August 9, Sam (a somewhat-regular poster here) and I got hitched. When we first started planning our wedding, we decided that it had to be cheap, but it certainly didn’t have to be boring. During the initial planning phases, we were chatting with a friend of ours who we had gotten hooked on Katamari Damacy (one of our favorite games of all time). I had bounced around the idea of making the cake topper, and Mark (who took the above photo and did our official wedding photography) suggested I make a Katamari Damacy topper, with bride and groom stuck to the Katamari.

Glow = Boringman

On Saturday night I had the immense displeasure of attending “Glow” in Santa Monica.  If you did not know about it or attend, you are extremely fortunate.  The event was hyped as the first event of its kind in America (incorrect: there is a tiny festival held every year called Burning Man, but pretty much nobody has ever heard of it, so how could the PR firm pushing Glow be expected to know about it?  [sarcasm filter: on]), fashioned after the Nuit Blanche in Paris.  It was to be an all night festival of arts and music on and around the Santa Monica pier; what it actually turned out to be was an incredibly embarassing clusterf##k of epic proportions.

Another Item For My Wishlist: Wall Cleats

Look at that image.  Just freaking look at it.  It sells itself, you don’t need me to tell you how cool it is.  I want one of those on at least 3 of the outlets in my bedroom right now, damnit.  Jess, when you read this post, go try to convince the creator of this brilliance, Karl Zahn, to make it into a product that is available for sale. Then buy some.  Via OhGizmo!

A Mug For The Morning Person In None Of Us

Monday, July 14th, 2008

brass_knuckle_mug

I hate mornings more than most things.  My ideal life would be noon-2am, but the working world does not operate that way, so I must suffer through morning after morning of annoying “being awake and not dreaming”-fulness.  This mug pretty accurately expresses how I feel until mid-afternoon on most days.  I especially like the butterflies on the other side, it’s a nice litte touch.  The same designer created this brass knuckle shot glass, which I do not support simply because I despise violent drinkers.  It is also a little large to be considered a shot glass.

Adam Savage - Maker Faire 2008 - Day 2

Day 2 of the Maker Faire was just as much fun as Day 1. For more photos, check out my Flickr gallery for day 2.

One of the big highlights for me was getting the opportunity to attend a lecture by Adam Savage of MythBusters fame. His lecture was not only informative, but extremely inspiring. He talked about his years working at ILM, working with Jamie Hyneman at M5 Industries, and his passion for recreating movie props.

MythBusters or no, Adam Savage is one of my personal heroes. His dedication to his craft, inquisitive mind, attention to detail, and creative drive make him the kind of person I want to be when I grow up.

Maker Faire 2008 – Day 1

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Day 1 of the Maker Faire was a blast! I saw a lot of great exhibits, attended a few interesting lectures, and generally got my geek on.

Photos from day 1 of my adventure can be found here. I’ll be adding titles and descriptions to the photo collection as soon as I can. For now I figured I would spend my time writing what will be a pretty massive blog post.

Continue reading about my adventure after the jump.

Maker Faire 2008

I just arrived in glorious San Francisco for the Maker Faire. For those of you who are woefully unaware of what the Maker Faire is, just picture the geeky lovechild of a Science Fair and Burning Man… minus the psychotropic drugs and nudity. The event was created by the folks at Make Magazine, which you are a loyal subscriber to, right? RIGHT?

I will be attending this weekend’s festivities, and reporting back to you about what I find. Because I will be in “Kid in Candy Store” mode, I will likely not be able to report back until the evening, but I’ll make up for the delay with lots of photos.

/Chris

UPDATE: Thanks to Carol in the comments below we now know this is from Tsang Cheung-shing.

No word on who made this, or how, but it is so damn cool and beautiful that I knew you guys would appreciate it if I passed it along. Via Design You Trust (and you should, they find things like this on a daily basis).
