Michael Swingler, Midlife

FIRST RUNNER-UP
Tony McNeal, Born That Way

BEST-IN-CATEGORY WINNERS:

SCRIPTED DRAMA

Omer Zigdon, Banisko

UNSCRIPTED DRAMA

Zeus Quijano Jr., Point Of Entry

SCRIPTED COMEDY

Tara MacDonald, Everything Burns

UNSCRIPTED COMEDY
Brigham Cottam, Wrestling With The Unknown

We’re looking forward to the next festivals, and are working on all kinds of new projects right now, so hopefully this is just the very beginning for us!  Also, side note, the still frame above is from the winning project, Midlife.

Psycho Bob Gets Some Laurels (SnS too!)

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

bobs_laurels

Hey!  “Psycho Bob” and “Striker and Swat” have been selected to screen in the 2009 Independent Film Festival!  Psycho Bob is an Official Selection screening on Mon Aug 3 and Tues Aug 4 , and Striker and Swat is screening as part of the MobiFest on Wed Aug 5th.  If you are in LA, come say hello to us at one of the screenings or the multitude of mixers all week- we’d love to have your support and to meet as many of you as possible.  This is the first festival for either show, so obviously it’s a pretty exciting turn of events for us.  And if you didn’t already know, we are filming new episodes currently, hoping to have a slate of them to release soon(ish).  What we have already shot is great, what we have scripted and still to shoot is even better, so stay tuned…

Psycho Bob Hits The Surface

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Psycho Bob on MS Surface

That is a Microsoft Surface with an episode of Psycho Bob playing on it.  Scary combo.  Thanks be to the intrepid AV Club members who made this happen at the Rio in Las Vegas last weekend (there will be a new post about that whole trip coming soon)!

UPDATE: They will be featuring another episode on Friday, so please log in and check it out!

NewTeeVee On Psycho Bob:

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

I only just now caught this really kind and detailed review of Psycho Bob over on NewTeeVee. Here are a few quick excerpts, but the basic gist is that they like what we are doing, which makes us really happy.

Director Andy Cochrane and cinematographer Craig Bauer deserve credit for developing an experimental storytelling style that is both uniquely suited for the web and is unlike anything else out there in terms of form and tone. While primarily a black comedy, Psycho Bob does occasionally veer into the realm of horror, ground not often tread by a medium that prizes brevity over suspense.

It’s a shame that Bob hasn’t received more attention in its native medium, but TheAVClub.tv should be commended for producing top-notch, innovative work like this, and on their own dime, too. It’s a nice reminder that even as studios and networks push further into online video spaces, independent creators like AVClub.tv are still producing the bulk of the best stuff out there. Hopefully TheAVClub.tv will continue to make Psycho Bob and other shows in the Bob format. In a world lousy with web videos of lip-synching fat kids and cute animal hijinx, this sort of creative storytelling is a welcome breath of fresh air.

Thank you for the extremely encouraging review, NewTeeVee, we really appreciate it.  I can say one thing to this- we are already planning the next slate of Psycho Bob episodes, and will be filming soon. It has been an extremely busy year for us behind the scenes, sorry that there has not really been much visible new content, but hopefully the coming months will change that.

Bob’s Big Date

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Psycho Bob is back once again, and this week he’s going out on the town with Betty, the only woman on Earth other than his mother who seems to understand him.

This episode is the last episode of 2007 for Psycho Bob, thanks to all of you for watching and making it our biggest series yet! We will be making more episodes in the new year, so do not fret, but if you want to see all of the episodes you can watch them here or grab the podcast and watch them anywhere.

For the true fans in the crowd, you may have noticed that this short is shot for shot identical to the first episode, “Bob’s Big Night“; this is because we filmed the two at the same time; this episode was always planned as the bookend to the first batch of Bob shorts. We have some big plans for Bob in the near future, but if you have any feedback on the series as a whole we are more than listening- drop us a line or leave a comment below, we want to know what you think.

Psycho Bob Update:

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

The latest episode of Psycho Bob was released this Wednesday (Halloween, appropriate, eh?). This one features Mary Pat Farrell, of Splooginator fame, and Doug Sarine from Ask A Ninja and FOUND as Bob’s nosy neighbors. This episode was harder than most to edit, mostly because of how funny the performances were, but also because the format of Bob makes any kind of dialogue almost impossible to fit it.
That is not the only Bob news today- the series is being featured right now in a special screening as part of the 2007 Rome Film Festival. The screening and following discussion are about the future of cinema in relation to online distribution, and we were selected as a representative of one of the new forms of expression that are evolving online. The other selections are some pretty heavy duty creators such as LonelyGirl15, SNL Digital, Four Eyed Monster, and a bunch more. Info on the screening (in Italian) is here, and if you are in Italy [*cough*AAA*cough*] and you go to the screening, let me know how it went! This is a huge honor, and marks the first time we have had one of our shorts involved in any film festivals, so we are deeply grateful to have been selected.

Psycho Bob Visits His Folks

Bob goes home to visit his parents for dinner; you can really see why Bob grew up to be the man he is!

Quiet Please!

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Psycho Bob is back for another thrilling installment; this time, Bob decides to take some time off from his normal routine and goes to catch a movie, but there’s a complication- there’s someone worse than Bob at the same movie!

If you are new to this series, there are more episodes right here, and a podcast right here.

AVC On SVTV

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

AVCI have been completely in a work tunnel for the past two months, and many things have suffered greatly because of it. One thing that I have been massively remiss in posting is the fact that the AV Club is now on TV!!! So far, 4 episodes of Psycho Bob, Drunk America Ep3: Global Warming, and our short Splooginator have all aired on StupidVideos.com’s on demand channel. If you have Comcast cable, you can see us by searching for the StupidVideos channel in the OnDemand (channel 1) “cutting edge” section. If you do check it out, can you let me know how it looks? I have Time Warner now because they bought Comcast and Adelphia out of the LA area… so I am unable to see it for myself. If you ever wanted to see us at full rez, this is your chance.
