Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, lost his voice permanently 18 months ago. He was struck by a very rare condition known as Spasmodic Dysphonia that is the result of the speech centers of the brain suddenly shutting down. While they do not know what causes it, or what the cure may be, Adams announced some very good news on his blog a few weeks ago. Adams and his daughter discovered that if he rhymes what he wants to say, he can speak again. The whole story is on the blog, and it is really heartwarming; I’ll admit, I got a little verklempt reading it. I really really recommend reading the whole thing, it is one of those true-life Hollywood endings. Let’s hope it stays like “Lorenzo’s Oil” and does not lead to an “Awakenings” style regression, the man is a legend and hope that he eventually fully recovers.
