OLED Solar Power
September 26th, 2006 by Andy|
A very exciting technology announcement came out last week- researchers at Cornell have discovered a way to make OLED (organic light emitting diode) panels that not only emit light, but can also convert light to electricity. A few months ago there was a lot of buzz about using OLED panels to light rooms; they would be large, soft, low power and cool (heat wise). OLED panels are strong, flexible, can be clear, and will be cheap to mass produce. So what will this mean? Windows that charge during the day and glow at night, entire ceilings that light up, screens on devices that also help top-off the batteries, the list is as long as your imagination. I really do hope that this becomes a product or products in the marketplace, it seems like its time we got more solar and other ‘free’ generation technologies into our daily lives. |
