The Complex: Update
August 23rd, 2006 by Chris|
“The Complex” is a Machinima show that we are in the process of developing. We have assembled a team of 3 talented programmers that will be working with Valve Software’s “Source” engine (the engine behind Halflife 2, and Counterstrike:Source) to create a “Mod” that will allow our actors to perform live shows using 3d characters much like puppets. Aside from heading this project, I am also building the first set, which will be the primary location of the show. The set is a virtual apartment building that I’ve been working on (on and off) for a couple years. My work on the map was put on hold so I could focus on other AV Club projects, but now that we have a team of programmers, this project is officially in full-swing. Last night while working on the map I snapped 13 quick screenshots, which can be viewed here. Right now I am progressing toward a point where I will be able to record another walkthrough video that does not have too many bugs/work-in-progress elements. The new walkthrough video will be recorded using Fraps, so the quality level should be far superior to our original walkthrough video, which was recorded with “Camtasia.” Interested in this project? Have ideas or suggestions for it? Then why not go to our forums and share your thoughts! As progress is made on this project I will be posting updates, screenshots, photos, and videos. So stay tuned! /Chris |

You, of course, must make it available as a CS:S map.

There are plans to release a version for people to play with. But because it was designed as a set, and partly to mimic the structure/layout of a style of apartment building common to LA, it would not really work well as a CS:S map. It would not provide much in the way of balanced gameplay, but it would be fun to just walk around and explore.
It’s actually a lot of fun running around the map with a weapon and just destroying every physics model in sight.

Well I plan on using it to recreate my dream project: a machina opera about Elias Gonzales.

I’d pay good money to see that.

Awww, who am I kidding? I’d only use it to create vaguely creepy porn that leaves you feeling deeply ashamed.

I’ve already paid good money for that!

I’ll pay good money to see both ideas.
