The End Of The World (Of Warcraft)

grey goo worldAnyone see the season premiere of South Park?  To those who did not, the episode was about the kids playing W.O.W., and centered around them trying to defeat a player who had grown so strong he was unstoppable, basically killing everyone in the game, even the admins.  They could not stop him, for he had grown too strong.  It was funny, featured the use of “pwned”, and was all-in-all pretty damn good.  This morning brings news of a player wreaking total havoc on the Second Life universe.  Using some custom scripts that massively replicate basic objects rapidly, he or she is crashing all of the servers, and causing total havoc.  They are calling it a grey goo attack, named for the nightmare scenario that would be an out of control replication of nanobots, turning everything in the world into homogeneous grey goo.  I find art and life crossing paths to be funny.  Watch the South Park episode, and read all about the grey goo attack.

And on a sided note, the new episode of South Park is a great demonstration of Machinima. They had a lot of help from the folks at Blizzard to make the WoW engine do some fun new stuff like gesture animations and mouth movement.

Here are some WoW leveling tips that you really want to live by whenever you are leveling. It has helped me out a lot since I started playing and I know they will greatly benefit everyone as well.

Tip #1: Stick with a mixture of grinding and questing. One or the other by itself will probably slow down your progress but a nice mixture of both you can achieve the levels you want the fastest. There are tons of guides out there that will show you which quests to do, when to grind, and where to grind.

Tip #2: Grab as many quests as possible whenever in a town and don’t return until they are all completed. This cuts down on travel time and it really is a lot of fun turning in 5-9 quests at the same time!

Tip #3: Stay focused and have a game plan before logging in. For some people this really isn’t a problem but, I know for me and some of my friends, it really can be hard to focus on leveling and I know I have lost many hours of valuable leveling time due to not having a game plan setup before playing. With a plan of action it really is harder to get side tracked by the auction house, PvP, etc.

I was actually diagnosed for a gaming dependancy because of World of Warcraft. I began 2 years ago, and even bought things like a horde guide to assist me to level up in WoW. It slowly took over my full life, and to chop an extended story short, my family had to bring me to the doctor. It’s now 6 months since my therapy began, and I really feel utterly weaned off the game. World of Warcraft is enjoyable, however I highly advise not to start it if you someone with weak will-power like myself. Simply thought I’d share.
